Yowzers what a week! We’ve had a hugely successful, hugely fun and just plain huge antique auction. You can bet this will be the first of many.
We’ll get to the diamonds shortly, first I’d like to tell you a story. While we had several vendors this week, one that stood out for me was a lovely chap named John.
John sold his wee place in Motueka shortly after his wife passed away. They’d spent many wonderful years traveling New Zealand and Europe together, his wife watched happily as he’d fish and he’d support her through her little antique habit. John’s wife had an extraordinary eye for stunning treasures, items he was kind enough to allow us to share with our customers.
John had so many stories to share about his wife and their time together, they’d faced many trials through life, not least the return of her cancer shortly before she passed. He told me about how the struggle with selling their previous family home, as they wanted to downsize and move into a more manageable space. Unfortunately, the real estate agent they went through at the time was not the most supportive or empathetic, they found themselves pressured into selling and buying at a less than reasonable price. However, he felt blessed to have found Tall Poppy, he was so happy with the lovely Debbie’s caring demeanor and sympathetic nature. He felt that Tall Poppy and Debbie had truly looked after him during such a vulnerable time.
It was such a beautiful story one which in turn made me feel proud to be joining a team of compassionate agents. I look forward to learning from the best and becoming a Tall Poppy.
So, what’s he up to now, well his house is just about empty - yes, there's more to come. He’s awaiting the delivery of his new camper van so that he can roam NZ fishing and causing a little havoc at the camper park, apparently, all the more mature single ladies have designs on our friend John and his little doggy companion. I’m looking forward to a postcard or two!
Philosophy of the week:
“Just keep swimming” ~ Dory
Dory was onto something here… although, I’m not sure swimming through a sea of cars was intention at all. Seems to be how my weeks going though, which is awesome.
Sell of the week:
The rock. Yes, that big old diamond cluster sparked as the hammer hit a whopping $1100. It was a stunner and it’ll make a perfect 50th gift for our most fabulous of buyers.
Next week's teaser:
Next week is gonna be groovy baby. We have a set of the iconic S chair from the great Dane Verner Panton, along with a collection of cool retro furniture and collectables for you hip cats and kittens. Be there or be square - it’ll be a gas!
Tall Poppy stuff:
This week I’m off to Paraparaumu to complete my induction for Tall Poppy, super excited is an understatement. I fly out Monday and I’ll be back in time for Wednesday nights auction. I’ll be full of ideas and inspiration and of course, I’ll be ready to chat with you about how we can get your home moving too.
While I’m away Lenny will be alone at the auction, well, not alone, the kids will be there too. So pop by and say hi, he’s bound to be keen for a little stimulating adult conversation by lunchtime Monday.
