Yeah, OK, we started about 5 months ago and this is no news to you, Maybe “So, I’m FINALLY writing a blog” is more fitting?
So, after pouring over pages and pages of interweb content telling me the best ways to write a blog; what readers want, what they don’t want, how to keep it fun, how to not be too informal, how to saturate everything with gif’s, how to sell, sell, SELL. I’ve decided to finally bite the bullet and start putting something together to keep you up to date on what we’re doing here in the Auction house, out on the road and in the house selling game, all mushed together with a few general life musings.
I’d like to start my first blog with a little info on Team Wills, my intention is to keep it brief, but I can’t promise anything - I am well known for monologues of epic proportion!
My name is Jes, my husband is Lenny (he’s the hat guy) and the kids are James, Libby and Anna, these you’ll no doubt see running around the auction at full tilt every Wednesday night. Originally I’m from the UK, came to NZ in my early twenties and totally loved this beautiful slice of heaven lived in a few places across the country, eventually settled in Christchurch 15 or so years ago where I met Lenny. He’s from Dunedin originally, moved around a little bit with his family who owned antique stores up and down the South Island. After we married 10 years ago we decided to open our own antique/second hand store, we started in our garage and quickly grew to three warehouses and several staff. After all the shaky business and a lot of snow in Chch a few years back, we decided that it was time for us to head north and find some sunshine. Nelson was a town we’d always loved and because of its sheer awesomeness and family vibe, it was a bit of no brainer. We packed the family in the truck 4 years ago and haven’t looked back.
Our first 3 years in Nelson were a fabulous mix of sunshine, beaches, new friends and new jobs. I finished my teaching degree and worked all over the place and still do. Lenny opted for a bit of a change and decided to return to real estate, he loved it in his youth so why not give it another bash? Last year a friend of Lenny’s managed to persuade him to go to the auction to help him out, he quickly remembered how much he’d enjoyed the thrill and buzz of the auction. We had a think about how we can somehow amalgamate all of the things we enjoyed doing into one big thing.. and here we are, 5 months later, we have our own Auction House, we sell houses and sometimes teach your children.
Philosophy of the week:
“If you take the label off of the tinned tomatoes, are there still tomatoes in the tin?”
~ Anna & Libby
I like to call them “Schrodingers tomatoes” just for good measure, and no, fortunately we don’t have a cat.
Sale of the week:
While they weren't the highest priced items this week, the large variety of vintage and collectible toys on Wednesday night were certainly the most fun ..and the most discussed around our dinner table!
Next week's teaser:
We have so many cool things coming up next week, including some fabulous mid-century finds; Sebel armchairs, Hobnob chairs and scrumptious Scandi finds.
Tall Poppy stuff:
This week has been pretty exciting, my contracts are all signed up with Tall Poppy, so Lenny and I will now be working together (once all my licensing malaki comes through) as Team Wills. We do all the usual real estate stuff, but with our own quirky little spin and of course, Tall Poppies unbeatable flat fee!
Lenny’s been selling houses left right and centre of late, with multiple offers on multiple listings, making multiple clients extremely happy. If you’d like to have a chat to him about your place or just compare cool hats, pop by for a coffee. We’re about Monday to Friday 9-5 @ 34a Vanguard Street.
Oh and I got a last minute invite the “Spring Fashion Fling” on Saturday night at NCG. I’m super excited, so if you spot me fizzing around the place, please come say hi I’d love to hear what you think about this coming season's trends.
If you like our newsletter and want to support us buy from Team Wills

Until next time, don’t forget… Where there’s a Wills, there’s a way!
